Description:Game design can be woven into any science curriculum, providing an engaging way for students to learn science content and to creatively apply what they have learned. Find out how to start using game design and game jams in your classroom. Serious games address real-world challenges, compress problems into immediate experiences, encourage systems thinking, and promote active engagement, making them particularly well suited to science education. Game design in the classroom can inspire curiosity, creativity, collaboration and problem-solving in any science topic. Serious games address real-world challenges, encourage systems thinking and promote active engagement. Learn about the basic elements of game design, tools, and past successes with this teaching strategy in elementary through college-age students. In a game jam, teams of students work to rapidly prototype game designs (online, digital, role-play, board games, card games) to make science content accessible to many audiences. This strategy encourages connections to online resources, science data and game experts and allows students to creatively use their content knowledge in new problem-solving scenarios. Participants will try simple game design lessons using science content and find where to find supporting tools and information to engage the digital students in your classroom.
