NISE 2023 Conference Information

This year our conference theme, "Science for All" looks to celebrate the return to in-person learning and science teaching at all levels.
Due to the demand for the conference and venue space restrictions, we typically offer several "Featured Speakers" rather than a single keynote. These are nationally recognized experts on the NGSS, STEM, science, and science teaching.
NISE is pleased to welcome Fermilab Senior Scientist, Dr. Don Lincoln. Don is the author of several books, Great Courses, YouTube Videos, and TED Talks. Don will be presenting excerpts from his Great Course on Misconceptions in Science. Come experience Don’s unique brand of humor as he leads us down the path of what we think we know about the world we live in.
A Total Solar Eclipse will be visible to parts of the US on April 8, 2024 and the Chicagoland area will experience 90-95% totality. The next total solar eclipse visible in the US won’t be until 2044, so you won’t want to miss sharing this experience with your students! NISE is excited to welcome two presenters who will share their eclipse expertise with you to help you and your students prepare for this exciting event, including how to view the eclipse safely. From the Adler Planetarium we welcome Michelle Nichols, Director of Public Observing and from Eclipse2024.org we welcome Dan McGlaun
Again this year, we are offering double session, hands-on workshops included with the conference fee. These hands-on workshops will allow for 1.5 hours of presenter led group work, collaboration, and activities. Some of these workshops will have limited seating and require a special sign-up process after registration.
One example, returning again this year, will be the popular iFLY Workshop. Participants will visit the iFLY facility around the corner from the conference facility and learn about their STEM curriculum, tour the facility, and experience indoor skydiving! (LIMITED SEATING, Subject to Change)
[NOTE: Workshop information and a sign-up link will be emailed to all registered attendees about a week or so before the conference. Sign-up is on a first-come first-serve basis.]
NIU Naperville Conference Center is centrally located along the Chicago area's north/south (I-355) and east/west (I-88) corridors. It is just a few minutes south of I-88 on Diehl Rd, using the Naperville Rd. / Freedom Dr. exit and 5 minutes from I-355 using I-88.
