Abstract Details (PID = P164)
Title:Introduction to Productive Talk (P164)
Description:Discover strategies to support student reasoning and discourse. Implementing NGSS means enabling a community of learners. Join me for a crash course in Productive Talk! The true goal of facilitating scientific discourse in the classroom is to help students develop their voice as a scientifically literate member of their community. In order to help students develop their role as the drivers of classroom exploration and explanation, teachers must hone their ability to empower student voice. Students need to develop skill and confidence within discussions that will sometimes justify, and other times challenge their thinking. Learn how to increase your students' ability to: pose probing questions, challenge the ideas of their peers, and engage in productive discourse. Participants will receive helpful tools and activities to help students gain confidence and improve their ability to participate in productive discussions.
