Title:Grading for Equity: Shifting the Focus to Empower Students (P153)
Description:Grading is a "necessary" evil, but how often do students need to see grades? What practices can we adopt to make assessing our students more equitable? How can we make our grades truly describe student learning and avoid the race for points or student shut down? Using any device, we will play games to delve into current research about student engagement and how we can take back our gradebooks to give students an equitable experience in class. We will explore the concept behind providing students with feedback but not a grade during the learning process. We will interact with formative assessment, descriptive feedback and retaking assessments. Attendees will come away with easy strategies that can be used tomorrow for all students.
