Abstract Details (PID = P132)
Title:Performance Assessment for Mitosis/Meiosis (P132)
Description:Do you want to hear your quietest students speak more than ever before? Are you interested in seeing students who often do poorly on traditional tests earn the highest grade they've ever had on an assessment? Does high student engagement make your day? If so, this session is for you! This hands-on session will help participants assess students using performance instead of traditional forms of assessment. Participants will learn how to help students model the stages of mitosis or meiosis using common household items then use this model to assess students on their performance and knowledge of the process. Editable lesson plan and rubric provided. Discussion to include other ways performance-based assessment could be integrated into the science classroom.
