NISE / S4 - Mini-Conference 2019
Northern Illinois Science Educators (NISE), in cooperation with the South Side Science Supervisors (S4), is excited to host a FREE mini-conference on Thursday, April 4th at Evergreen Park High School from 6-9pm with check-in starting at 5:30 pm. The theme is “Recharge & Inspire.” The conference is geared toward middle and high school science teachers and will have a variety of science disciplines and approaches to teaching. Our goal is to provide teachers practical ideas to support their daily work with their science students.
The two featured speakers for the event, Dr. Mark Hammergren and Dr. Geza Gyuk. Both are astronomers from the Adler Planetarium. Dr. Hammergren will give a presentation entitled "Asteroids, Comets, and Meteorites through Time and Space" and Dr. Gyuk will discuss "Gravity, Cosmology & Reality." They will also give a joint presentation on Adler's student and community projects including the "Far Horizons" program. The talk will include work on high-altitude balloon missions to the stratosphere, currently used to map pollution, and efforts to delve hundreds of feet below the surface of Lake Michigan hunting for meteorite fragments.
The evening will consist of approximately twenty (20) presentations. PD Hours/CPDUs will be provided (2.5 hrs) for those who attend the entire event. Food and beverages will be provided during check-in.

This event is intended for all 6-12 science educators and is free. Updates on presenters, registration, and other additional information will be made available here as the date approaches. CPDUs will be provided for those who attend the entire event and provide their IEIN during registration.
