Title: | Talking the Talk: Effective Discourse Strategies to Support In-Depth Sensemaking (P163) |
Description: | Discussion is central to NGSS. Talking things out helps us work out our thinking (Windschitl, 2020). However, on average teacher talk for 70-80% of class time (Hattie, 2012), and when students do have opportunity to participate we often hear same few voices. In this session, participants will delve into practical strategies that help build student confidence and capacity to engage in in-depth, equitable, evidence-based science discussions. Educators will analyze classroom video and walk away with tools and resources they can use in their classrooms. |
