Description: | Agriculture and food processing is the largest industry in Illinois and is a great avenue to bring scientific concepts to life for your students! In this session hosted by DuPage County Farm Bureau - Ag in the Classroom, participants will take a deep dive into modern apple production and join in our hands-on and delicious lesson: Apple Genetics- A Tasty Phenomena. Using the context of apples, participants will apply their knowledge of heredity and genetics to distinguish between sexual and asexual reproduction as they explain how new varieties of apples are developed and then propagated to meet consumer demand for a tasty, uniform, consistent product. *Note: Apple tasting will be part of the presentation. Those with food allergies, may not be able to fully participate. |
