Title: | Integrating Agronomy, Foraging, and Mycology in HS Science (P118) |
Description: | Discover how to make environmental science hands-on and engaging by incorporating agronomy, wild edible plant foraging, and mycology into your classroom. This session will provide practical strategies for teaching students to explore their local environment through learning their local flora and fauna. You'll learn how to organize plant walks for identifying key agronomy crops, identify edible nuts, and seeds like acorns, walnuts, and hickory nuts, while We'll also explore simple methods for growing mushrooms in a cup. Attendees will be provided with example journals, agronomy slides, and lesson plans that can easily be adapted to different educational settings. As part of the session, we'll inoculate mushroom cups with oyster mushrooms to take home and if time permits we will go on a plant walk on campus. |
