Abstract Details (PID = P103)
Title:Science of Reading in Today's Science Class (P103)
Description:The Science of Reading in today's Science class refers to applying the principles and research findings from the ever-growing field known as "The Science of Reading" to the teaching of science content. This means ensuring your students have the necessary reading skills to access and understand scientific texts, including decoding words, building vocabulary, and comprehending complex concepts presented in science materials. When students are able to do this, they are able to make deep connections and understanding between the labs, activities, and the science concepts. This session will include a brief overview of the Science of Reading, specific ways you can use these strategies in your diverse classroom, and time to directly apply your learning to a previously-created lesson.
